I started wrestling via the internet at 24.. yeah one of those peeps in the early days. All of my early bouts were with men 20+ years older. It was never an issue for me, and God I learned so much too.
Looking at this "scene" 20 year later, being in 40s myself, what has changed?
Well, most people are online, so all sorts might join sites such as this, but with a much narrower agenda (more sex/dating, only guys their own age) and, look, that's fine too is it not?
If I challenge a 20-something, and they're not interested, that is fine with me! Why wouldn't it be.
Who wants to wrestle someone if they're not up for it too?? It's so simple. Only approach guys who you think you have a good chance of having a MUTUALLY good meet-up with. It's not tricky. If a hot 20=something says in his profile "looking for similar aged lads", don't get upset if you're 35 and doesn't want to know. That's his right.. seems fair enough to me!
I'm now considerably heavier than back then.. so I get rejections based on size as well as age too. Yet I find this better believe-it-or-not. The few who approach me are 90% up for a real meet. If I was 24 musclebound I'd get stupid numbers of messages.
Yes, there are lots of hot guys under 29 on here. If they wanna wrestle eachother good for them. They aren't "age-ist" they are doing what feels right for them.
I AGREE WITH HARDANDY theres loads of mma clubs out there now ive been going to one myself for 5 months now and our club is aged ranged between 14 and 49 and everyone fights each other theres no younger lads there who wont fight a older guy or vice versa everyone teaches each other and its a great way too keep fit, regardless of age and sexual preference,we all enjoy having a good scrap at the end of the day and its great that mma has brought grappling and wrestling back to the young again
Oh, get a grip! This site is far from ageist. Most of the guys on it are in midlife and happy to wrestle and with guys of different generations. There is much more ageism generally against the over 70s who are seen as decrepit, asexual and close to death and, as aresult, are shunned by young AND midlife gay men. Perhaps there are fewer on here given that not that many guys 60 or 70 plus still wrestle. I think most guys have taken up rassle in midlife. Wish I'd done it much earlier now but there wasn't the developed, diverse culture/opportunites when I were a lad back in the 1980s!
There is tho, thankfully, much less idiotic body fascism on this site and the rassle scene generally - at elast in Britain. Maybe younger guys tend to keep to their own hermetically sealed circles - their loss! I dont link twinks anyway. But I have found that bigger guys who are six-pack free (and avoid all the self-tyranny that goes into getting one) are more prized in this part of gay culture.
Well, of course. The entire gay scene is incredibly youth oriented. This site is no exception. If you're not under 25, don't have a six pack and aren't an absolute nymphomaniac you have to work to get anything. If you satisfy all 3, everyone wants you, loves you, worships you and will give you anything you want. Provided you're ok fucking them instead of shaking their hands.
SlimFighter: "I was just interested to see how many guys under 29 are into wrestling? just seems alot more older guys into it."
It depends, of course, on what you mean by "wrestling".
I started at a new wrestling club last night, run by BWA-affiliated coaches (freestyle/Olympic style) and of the fifteen or so students, most were in their twenties.
That was REAL wrestling, of course, not sexual play-fighting, which does seem to be more popular with British gay men in their 40s and 50s than with younger gay men.
I think the reason is that when the older guys were younger, what we now call BritPro (WoS) was more popular, and the closeted guys used to fantasise about the fighters and the positions they would get into.
Nowadays we have WWE which is more blatantly theatrical, so less erotic. I'm sure Stone Cold Steve Austin and the like have many young gay admirers, but there is not the same mystique about it.
Nah! Yer just plain wrong Katty mate! (Lol). I think younger guys depend just as much perhaps even more on the 'net as it's more integral to how they run their lives these days and they've grown up with the digital age. I just don't think many younger gay/bi guys are into it. Many I've spoken with, like myself, (and sadly), have come to combat sports relatively later in life, so there may not be (much of) a separate network of younger guys (otherwise connected).
I think the reason you find older guys looking for matches a=on this and other sites is because it is easy for young guys to find matches without having to look online.
Surely this interesting dialogue teaches us that personal preference is just that. Older like younger, younger like older and so on. The danger is to assume what we might like is what everyone else likes. I personally like the idea of looking for a good wrestle foremost but as I said 'personally'.
One of the great things about this site is most people want to wrestle / fight and are not primarily using it as another 'dating' system.
MancsMonkey is right. It does work the other way round too: young guys teaching older I've got young mates who treat me as an equal give me feedback & coaching & try out stuff they have found on YouTube etc. Real nice guys, especially when they want to share experiences like visiting other martial arts clubs & going to watch tournaments & fights.
The Caffmoss community site is real friendly and exists to put u in touch with older guys whether u r young or old yourself. I've had quite a few requests recently to pics of self on Caffmoss site from younger guys interested in wrestle. Not all young guys want young. Some see the beauty in older men and one that goes beyond youthful and so-called pristine looks that realises that there is something to learn from us midlife/older guys. Many a good tune played on a Stradivarius! Don't forget that we can sometimes learn from younger guys and we should avoid the reverse ageism that stereotypes them as shallow, self-obsessed, body fascists.
Ok, I like young guys. When I was in my 20's I must admit the older guys were not my first choice either. Now I am older there is a very small minority that look the other way when the instructor calls "find a partner" or "change partners" but to my delight though, there does seem a constant stream of young guys positiveley wanting to practice with me. They sometimes feel greater confidence, at other times want to test themselves maybe; but they are aware you not only may have more experience but may be more prepared to pass it on and have no issues about being patient with them & giving loads of feedback on what they are doing. Young guys, you too will be older eventually. Apart from that we can help you learn stuff to go off & try on the playmates of your own age. Its worth broadening your horizons. There is loads of wrestling fun ahead.
These are all fair comments, but I think some guys just feel more comfortable wrestling guys of a similar age for whatever reason - nothing personal, just a preference. Either there is some sexual attraction or just wrestling as mates.
i personally think the younger generation are totaly missing the point, They say it is hard for them to find other guys of there age to wrestle with.
My answer to that is then join a club whether it be a main stream wrestling club or MMA club that combines mma grappling submission wrestling ,boxing etc or for London gay and bi guys join Speedo-Wrestlers and learn to wrestle all age groups.
Age should not really be the question here!!!! It is whether you are seriously wanting to learn wrestling/fighting as a sport . If it is as a sport then age should never be a barrier. Any wrestling holds ,moves etc you learn at training can also be used in domination matches with guys of your own age in private matrooms where you are the only guys present. What the younger guys are forgetting is that the older guys are great teachers of the sport and should not be put off wrestling them . After all they were young themselves at one time and went through exactly the same as they are finding but in an age when being gay/bi was an illegal act between men. As an event organiser i try to encourage guys of all ages to get together and to wrestle each other regardless of the amount of skill they have as that can only be gained by experience, regardless of someones age (you may get the shock of your lives and find out that the greatest majority of guys 45+ are not looking to have sex with younger inexperienced guys but do enjoy wrestling younger guys.) I enjoy wrestling and fighting guys who are younger than me but would never force anyone to have sex with me unless they had agreed in advance that they were looking for a fuckfight/wrestle and even then if i have beaten them i would still ask again if they were sure that was what they were after. So with that i have probably left myself open to getting a right mouthfull of abuse but is my thoughts.
When I came onto the gay wrestling scene (many decades ago!!!) in the 70's there were not that many 'young people' doing underground wrestling either. I only met other guys my age at an amateur wrestling club I joined after leaving the army where I also learned wrestling from an enthusiastic (but not in any way gay) PTI.
I was actually grateful to eventually meet the 'older guys' who were gay and introduced me to other wrestlers.
In those days as well wrestling was a rarity on TV with one hour per week of the WoS. Compare this to what you have available today.
I think, yes it is a case of opening your mind to the generation not your own because, to be frank the 'young people' are not going to stay young for ever are they?
Then the boot will be on the other foot won't it and you'll be the one complaining about the lack of young people willing to wrestle you 'cos you are the old and wrinkly one.
I've matched more than the average. The main problem is getting opponents to show up, and a secondary problem is finding opponents that are a challenge and aren't the same age as my parental units.
